A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That

Simba is such a sweet boy. He's easy going and he has the quality I admire most in a cat - he appreciates the litter box. He has recently decided that he likes being outside, much to the chagrin of his human family. Our normally sedentary little feline becomes mighty cat the instant the patio door opens. Mock 30 and he's already halfway down the stairs. I'm not really sure what he sees in the great outdoors, save for that little incident with the baby birds. Sushi for cats. It's not exactly safe in the hood, especially when you're used to the Lazyboy life...and there's that whole issue about not having claws. And being neutered, and slightly overweight. But mostly muscle. I'm just saying. Best to be indoors and so we've got him in lockdown.

Who's that handsome Aussie at the dog park!! Bearbear's not going to let any grass grow under him!

Please forgive me. I have discovered the joys of photoshop. I could be doing great things, like solving the budget crisis. Or advocating for world peace, or picking up dog poop!

Bear likes to be the center of attention. If he sees his buds are getting some love and he's not part of it, he flashes those big brown eyes and and starts to bark. He progresses into this guttural sort of ah roo ROO ROo Roo roo roo roo until you give him a couple of pats. Spoiled? You don't say.

Morgie is the most beautiful Chihuahua. Ever. I take everything back that I ever said about ankle biting, yip yapping little rodent like runts. Not true. Most affectionate little sweetheart you could ever hope to find. She's absolutely aerodynamic. No lie, she has the ability to literally propel herself in complete defiance of gravity. For the most part, she gets along fine curled up in a little ball in her bed, but if she detects danger, she goes into instant alert. Look at those ears. Tune in Tokyo.

.

I found her a little Sherpa bag and she loves it. I set it on the floor and open it up and she jumps right on in and assumes travel position. When we are at the dog park, she likes to chill in the bag. Great view, fabulous protection.

Ezzie has once again proven to be a great warrior. J was sitting at home hanging out with the pups. His dad stopped at home earlier than his usual time and encountered a fierce beast ready to attack! As soon as Rambo saw it was E, she immediately started wiggling her butt and put on her happy face. J loves his Ezziegirl. And she loves him. Welcome to the gun show. That's right, tickets now on sale. Alarm system my arse, we don't need Nothin' butt Aussie.

Tweety knows the name of everyone in our family. Except for mine. I suspect she knows it, but she ignores my very existence. She's oblivious to the fact that I picked her out, I hand fed every day when she was a baby, and I am in charge of her every need nearly sixteen years later. She absolutely despises me. In her mind, she is the head of the flock. She mimics my voice and orders around the members of my family. "J, I said go to bed! Go to bed right now!" And then there's the roll call whenever we return home - each family member, one by one...except for me. She not so secretly wishes for the day I'm omitted from the list. She has mated with E. She will snuggle him and puke up food for him. He's indifferent. Nevertheless, I love her. I'm comforted by the fact that she is a constant - always a greeting (not necessarily for me, but in my voice, so flattering all the same), always observing, always making sure everything is as it should be. She's also not one to easily forget the pack order. W is off to college right now. She still calls out for him. Sad really; I wish there was some way I could make her understand.

When I was pregnant with M, Tweety took residence on the floor of her cage. She built a quasi nest. We started to worry; it looked like she was really sick, or depressed. So, off to Google I went. I probably haven't mentioned this, but I have a masters in Googleosophy. We learned she was actually having a pseudo pregnancy along with me! I discovered that African Greys will actually lay unfertilized eggs in such situations. After I gave birth, she waited a few weeks and then returned to her usual perch. Gotta love her. It would have been really cool to see the unfertilized egg come to fruition, but I guess she's wasn't that committed.

Beach Babies!

We are so excited. We have finally booked our beach destination vacation trip. It's a long drive, but well worth the destination. My babies (human and canine) are going to spend a week soaking up the sun on the gulf shore!

The beach house.

The dogs have been granted permission to hang by the pool.

The ocean is right over yonder.

There are dog parks and a dog beach available! Fun for everyone! Let the countdown begin!

Puppy luv

I look forward every day to coming home to my family, including my pets. The joy our pets bring to our lives is indescribable. I love it that they are always so happy, so eager to please, and so adorable. With our latest addition, Morgie, we have the best of all canine worlds. A lap dog! That fits! She is slowly but surely gaining her confidence. She eats with the Aussies now and will reluctantly spend some time outside with them. Ezzie wants her to play in the worst way, and she seems like she might possibly, someday, in the unforeseeable future, warm up to the idea. For now, she very verbally sets boundaries with Miss Esmeralda.

Morgie is like a first alert system. She has these freakish ears that allow her to hear the slightest sound. She goes off and the Aussies come a runnin; they are the muscle.

Our cat weighs a little over sixteen pounds. Morgie weighs five. Morgie likes to chase the cat and it's probably a good thing for him, the exercise aspect and all. We've learned that he's a lot more agile than we would have guessed. In an elephant in a China shop sort of way.

I'm sure you all saw this coming a mile away. Morgie's joining our family! She is so mellow. So sweet. So quiet. And so affectionate.

Ezzie loves to swim. It doesn't happen very often given our landlocked geographical location. But when it does, she is a very happy girl.

Welcome Miss Morgie!

I'm sure you all saw this coming a mile away. Morgie's joining our family! She is so mellow. So sweet. So quiet. And so affectionate.

Summertime is here!

It's been a busy, busy summer so far! Keeping the kids and the pups busy is a full time task. Little Penny, now known as Mikki, has moved into her adoptive home. We have our next little foster, Morgie, but she's not a real dog.

She's an adorable little purse puppy!

Ezzie is so curious, but respectful. ;)

I never thought Chihuahuas could have so much personality!
I officially became one of those weirdos that buys dog clothes today. Morgie was cold from the air conditioning. It seemed like the right thing to do. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

She is super sweet, but again, not a real dog. Tonight we went to the dog park. The dogs played. The pretend dog rode in a purse. And she ducks down too so we can mingle incognito. I'm going to take her everywhere! It's going to be really hard to let this one get adopted.
